November Effective Practices Webinar: Evidence-Based Practices for Family Engagement

This is a completed event.

Description:

We know that truly effective family engagement involves the development of genuine relationships with families, is part of the fabric of the school community, and provides equitable opportunities for families to participate, regardless of factors such as income and race. Yet all too often family engagement programs are one-time events that do not take into consideration the unique circumstances of families.

The programs featured in this month's Effective Practices Webinar have broken that mold through equity-based practices that have been proven to improve family-school-community partnerships. Gina Martinez-Keddy will share how Parent Teacher Home Visit's (PTHV) evidence-based model of relational home visits can build a strong foundation of trust between families and schools and result in positive outcomes for students, families, and educators. Maria Paredes will present on Academic Parent-Teacher Teams (APTT), a model of family engagement she developed that is grounded in the notion that schools can thrive when families and teachers work together, as genuine partners, to maximize student learning inside and outside of school. Finally, Robert Crosby, III will describe how the Flamboyan Foundation has put both Parent Teacher Home Visits and Academic Parent-Teacher Teams into practice in public and charter schools in Washington, DC.
