Co-Teaching Elementary Reading and Mathematics Summer (C-TERM) Academy (JMU Content Teaching Academy)

This is a completed event.

Description:

The Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Office of Special Education Instructional Services in consultation with the Office of Humanities and Early Childhood and the Office of Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics in partnership with the James Madison University Content Teaching Academy will sponsor a Co-teaching Elementary Reading and Mathematics (C-TERM) Academy.  The Academy is designed for elementary school teams of general education and special education teachers who teach reading and mathematics together to enhance all student outcomes, especially students with disabilities in the general education classroom.  This is the first year for this academy and the focus will be on improving content understanding, pedagogical strategies, collaboration/co-teaching strategies, and networking in the areas of reading and mathematics.  The two day academy will be held on June 25-26, 2018 at James Madison University.

VDOE is seeking elementary teachers with their co-teaching partners who co-teach math and reading to participate in the academy.  Priority will be given to teachers who teach in schools that have not met their state benchmarks in reading and/or mathematics.  VDOE will assume the cost of registration, lodging, and meals for all public school participants accepted into the program.  A $200 stipend will be provided to each participant.  School divisions are strongly encouraged to cover travel expenses for division participants as this cost is not assumed by VDOE; however, this is not a requirement of the program.
