Synopsis:

Children's literature is a fantastic resource for helping children make real-world connections in culturally and linguistically diverse early childhood classrooms. Using diverse books with classroom activities influences young children’s perceptions about diversity and helps them accept differences that exist in society.

Objectives:

  • Examine diversity standards that early learning programs can adopt to honor and respect children and families from diverse cultures.
  • Learn to identify and use culturally and linguistically relevant children’s literature in the classroom to provide a global perspective.
  • Explore culturally and linguistically diverse books and ready-to-use engagement ideas to foster critical conversations about racial and ethnic differences.
