Online, Self-Paced Tutorial #1 (Welcoming Students with Visual Impairment to Your School) for Individuals Working with Children Who are Blind or Visually Impaired (Registration is now open for Tutorial #1!)

This is a completed event.

Description:

Tutorial #1 - Welcoming Students With Visual Impairment To Your School

Registration for this tutorial ends October 9, 2017. Tutorial #1 access is Oct. 10-Dec 8, 2017.

Welcoming Students is made up of 4 modules, each containing a lecture, video segments, readings, and assigned activities to enhance and apply your learning. At the end of the tutorial, students are expected to be familiar with all material presented in the workshop, and to submit all assignments where indicated.

Participants will earn 20 ACVREP credits or 20 PDPs (Professional Development Points, like continuing education units) by completing the activities and quizzes. All assignments are required by Perkins in order to receive education credits.

Target Audience: This is a great course for educators (including teachers, related service providers, administrators, and instructional assistants) who may have a new student in their class who is blind or visually impaired, parents who want credits, and for TVI and Orientation & Mobility Instructors who may want to access this information to share with others.

Outreach Services, VSDB has purchased access to three online, self-paced tutorials and is making them available free of charge to professionals in Virginia who want to learn more about working with children who are blind or visually impaired.* These courses were developed at the Perkins School for the Blind.

After registering with Outreach Services, VSDB, you will receive a voucher code that you will use to register on the Perkins’ website to have the fee of $175.00 waived. You can then take the course at your convenience (24/7) from any location, within the time period allotted (Oct.10 - Dec. 8, 2017).

Perkins’ tutorials can be taken on your own, free of charge if you don’t need credits; Outreach has purchased state viewing for those who want credits for ACVREP and/or CEUs (Professional Development Points) for state licensure.

Individuals must achieve a passing grade on an assessment at the end of the tutorial for a certificate to be available through Perkins. People may take as many or few courses as they choose.

Registration info for Tutorial #2 is posted separately and registration for Tutorial #3 (Paths to Literacy: Intro to an Online Hub) will be sent later.
