K-12 Mathematics Standards of Learning Institutes (Virginia Department of Education, VDOE)

This is a completed event.

Description:

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is pleased to announce K-12 Mathematics Institutes to be held in October 2018 at five sites across the Commonwealth. These Institutes will utilize a train-the-trainer model to:

  • provide professional development grounded in the implementation of the 2016 Mathematics Standards of Learning;
  • strengthen the teaching and learning of mathematics through facilitating meaningful mathematical discourse; and
  • support equitable mathematics learning opportunities for all students.

Professional development materials based on the 2016 Mathematics SOL Institutes will be posted online for use by grade-level or subject-area teacher learning communities.

The five one-day Institutes will be offered for teachers, division-level leaders, mathematics supervisors, instructional supervisors, professional development personnel, division lead mathematics teachers, and other administrators with responsibility for mathematics. Each division is encouraged to include at least one member with a focus on the needs of exceptional learners in mathematics.
