PEATC Webinar: Homeschooling Children with Special Needs

This is a completed event.

Description:

How do you homeschool a child with special needs? Kathy Kuhl discusses how to customize curriculum, schedule, and plans for your child's unique strengths, weaknesses, and interests. She shows you how to find materials and get support, and how to decide whether students need special testing to identify learning problems. She explains how to help your child develop social skills. Learn about resources to help you and mistakes to avoid. Kathy Kuhl shares tools and strategies that can help you, whether you are looking only for after-school and summer enrichment, are considering homeschooling, or have been homeschooling for years.

Kathy Kuhl equips and encourages parents to help children with learning challenges. She speaks to parents internationally, combining a wealth of information and insight with practical suggestions, humor, and personal experience. After homeschooling a bright, dyslexic, creative, and highly distractible son for grades 4-12, she interviewed 64 families homeschooling students with learning difficulties to write Homeschooling Your Struggling Learner. This handbook helps anyone helping teens and children with challenges—including learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, autism, and giftedness—and others who “learn differently,” diagnosed or not.

Whether your child struggles or has given up, now is a great time to homeschool an exceptional child. Homeschooling lets us customize our children’s education, not only to their needs, but also to their strengths and gifts. Kathy founded LearnDifferently LLC to help parents homeschool. She gives private consultations by phone and Skype internationally.
Kathy graduated from William and Mary with teaching certificates in secondary mathematics and English. She has taught secondary math and English in public school and and in homeschool groups. She helps lead two homeschool groups in Northern Virginia, where she enjoys reading and hiking with her husband. They wed in 1981 and have two grown children
