Synopsis: The process of internalizing empathy and social discrimination occurs at an early age. Early childhood educators play an important role in helping children thrive in a society where racial and cultural biases exist. Join this session to learn relational strategies to cultivate cultural and racial empathy in young children.

Objectives: 

  • Understand the occurrence of and address individual biases about racial and cultural discrimination in interpersonal relationships. 
  • Recognize the impact of discrimination on young children while supporting diverse groups of children and families.
  • Acquire developmentally appropriate relational strategies, including cultural empathy, to promote healing of trauma triggered by racial and cultural discrimination.
