Webinar: Developing Spatial Navigation Skills Through Video Games

This is a completed event.

Description:

Presenter:  Dr. Lotfi Merabet is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, and Director of The Laboratory for Visual Neuroplasticity, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston, MA.  An optometrist and neuroscientist investigating how the brain adapts to the loss of sight, Dr. Merabet’s work is supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  He also serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Trustees for the Carroll Center for the Blind and the National Braille Press.

Webinar Description:  Imagine using engaging video games to help individuals who are blind learn to navigate new settings? If individuals could be scanned by an fMRI while gaming, which parts of the brain would be actively making navigation decisions?  Might it be possible to produce games that would help our students quickly learn to navigate the university they will be attending, or the large hospital where they’ll work?  Don’t miss this exciting webinar, where you’ll learn the fascinating answers to these and many other questions!

Target Audience: Teachers and related service providers of students who are blind or visually impaired, O & M Specialists, students who are blind or visually impaired and their family members.

After registering, you will receive an email confirmation with connection information for joining the webinar.  Attendance is limited to the first 100 people registered.
