AT Solutions for Students with Low Incidence Disabilities (2011)

We hope you will visit as many of the webshop sessions as possible. You will notice each webshop specifies an approximate completion time and includes an evaluation. The evaluation is required in order to receive a certificate of participation.   1. TARGET AUDIENCE: Low Incidence, PK-12
    TIME: 4 minutes
    DESCRIPTION: This Webshop shows how to create a foam switch.
  2. TARGET AUDIENCE: Low Incidence, PK-12
    TIME: 3 minutes
    DESCRIPTION: This Webshop demonstrates how to make a Switch using a CD container.
  3. Viewers will take a tour of a very special SCIENCE FAIR. The REACH Program at St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children hosts this annual event. Students with significant INTELLECTUAL and MULTIPLE DISABILITIES use a variety of ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY to share their ASOL-based projects. Take great notes and be prepared to be INSPIRED!

  4. TARGET AUDIENCE: ECE/Low Incidence, PK-12 (Resources updated August 2017)
    TIME: 30 minutes
    DESCRIPTION: It's really not surprising at all: children who are non-verbal have a hard time learning to read and write. Without functional expressive language skills, they are at risk. But what specifically can be done to help change this? This webshop will begin with research relating to home literacy experiences of children who are non-verbal target specific needs of these children, and provide practical methods and technologies to help increase positive literacy outcomes. The aim of the webshop is to improve literacy outcomes for all students with speech impairments including those with cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome and any other disability where there is a deficit in expressive speech ability.

  5. TARGET AUDIENCE: Mild/Moderate, Low Incidence
    TIME: 18 minutes
    DESCRIPTION: This workshop will provide an overview of the stages of the writing process and identify interventions that can be addressed at the appropriate stage of the writing process. A separate webshop will specifically address assistive technology solutions for writing

  6. TARGET AUDIENCE: Mild/Moderate, Low Incidence
    TIME: 25 minutes
    DESCRIPTION: During this portion of the workshop we will explore assistive technology solutions that can be used at all stages of the writing process. Solutions will be explained and resources will be given.
