This is a completed event.

Description:

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is offering a three-part learning series titled, Providing Remote Instruction for Preschoolers with Disabilities: Coaching Parents and Building Partnerships. The series is intended for early childhood educators who support a child with a disability. It is targeted to early childhood and early childhood special education teachers, but is also appropriate for administrators, related service personnel, and anyone else who may partner with families and implement coaching strategies to support learning. Teams are encouraged to participate together to enhance learning and apply content as a group.

Recorded Learning Series Part 1: Overview of Adult Learning and its Application to Parent Coaching

Recorded Learning Series Part 2: Parent Coaching- Characteristics and Strategies for Supporting Both Child and Adult

Recorded Learning Series Part 3: Tips for Overcoming Challenging Situations

This school year, many early childhood teachers will provide remote instruction for preschool children. To do so effectively, remote instruction will require teachers to partner with and support family members of the child. This learning series will explore how educators can utilize a parent coaching model to meet individual child needs, promote learning, and build the family’s capacity.

The series will be led by Dana Childress, Ph.D., Early Intervention Professional Development Consultant. It will focus on the Dathan Rush and M'Lisa Shelden coaching model. The goals are for participants to 1) gain an understanding of the purpose and value of coaching parents, 2) increase knowledge of the Rush and Shelden coaching model, and 3) implement the key characteristics of the coaching model. Participants will be encouraged to complete readings and activities throughout the series that are designed to enhance learning and improve implementation

Registration has closed. Participants signed up to participate in all three sessions. After registration, you received a confirmation email including the secure link and password to join all three of the sessions. The sessions will be recorded and be posted as webshops on LEADS Training
