  • Understand benefit programs under Social Security - SSI and SSDI;

  • Understand how earned income (wages) and unearned income affect cash and medical benefits, as well as other local state and federal benefits;

  • Understand which work incentives belong to which benefit program, when to use them and which ones to use;

  • Understand Medicaid & Medicare rules when individuals earn income;

  • Understand Medicaid Waivers and working rules;

  • Understand & identify a variety of work incentives available including 1619(a), 1619(b), Income Related Work Expenses (IRWE), PASS Plans, Student Earned Income Exclusion (SEIE), Virginia's Medicaid Works Program, Section 301 Provision, Substantial Gainful Activity, Trial Work Period, Extended Period of Eligibility, etc.

  • Access information from the SSA website & other important web resources;

  • Other topics of discussion will include Initial Eligibility, Ticket to Work, SNAP benefits, Housing Subsidies, Earned Income Disregard (Housing), Earned Income Tax Credit, and ABLEnow opportunities.

This is a 2-day comprehensive training class. Space is limited to encourage an interactive session and plenty of Q & A time.

  • A must for all vocational rehabilitation managers & staff;

  • A must for parents & family members of SSI and/or SSDI beneficiaries who work or want to work;
