Are you the parent of a young child receiving Early Intervention (EI) Services or Preschool Special Education services? Or do you work with children who are receiving EI services? Do you (or the parents you work with) have questions about navigating the Early Childhood system in Virginia?

The Early Childhood Academy, presented by PEATC in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education, is for you! This FREE 4-week self-paced online course is an innovative and parent-friendly resource focused on providing information on special education, the importance of early childhood services, and the resources available to parents of young children with disabilities. You will learn practical information to help set the foundation for your child’s lifelong learning and to make the transition to school less confusing.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • The importance of you as your child’s first teacher
  • How to support and encourage positive behaviors
  • Promoting language and communication skills
  • Moving from Early Intervention to Preschool

Early childhood is a critical time of developmental growth, and early learning helps our children develop the skills
necessary to be successful in school and life.
