Description:

New requirements that are specific to this grant-funded CTA:

  • Teachers who have previously attended an Adapted PE CTA are not eligible to enroll
  • Health and Physical Education teachers must enroll in the both the CTA and graduate course
  • Teachers who enroll must hold a current teaching or supervisory position in Health and Physical Education

Participants of this academy and graduate course will submit Health and Physical Education lesson plans as a deliverable. During the academy, teachers will learn about the unique complexities of working with students with special needs and explore a variety of instructional strategies to ensure all students are successful, regardless of ability or disability. The Academy aims to empower physical educators to adapt skillfully and modify curriculum, instruction, tasks, equipment, and/or environment to address the individualized needs and abilities of each child so all students can successfully learn and participate. This high-quality staff development provides opportunities for sharing effective teaching and learning practices that improve the health and educational performance of all children.

The Virginia Department of Education will assume the cost of registration, graduate tuition (3 hrs.), on-campus DOUBLE lodging (if you select SINGLE lodging, you must pay the difference of $80), and meals for all Virginia public school participants accepted into the program.
