Combining Assistive Technologies to Enhance Classroom Learning

This is a completed event.

Description:

There is no such thing as “one-size-fits-all” in education, but we can actually take some of the pieces of assistive technology and create enhanced learning environments which serve a number of purposes.  First, we need to create environments which have greater accessibility for learning and add to their inclusivity.  Then, we work with sensory support items to add to the focus and attention of all students.  During this session, we will look at how to re-purpose what assistive technology you already have and bring it to new life.  We will also look at aspects of AT which you may not have thought to bring into the classroom and see how they can easily adapt themselves into daily activities.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a piece of assistive technology from their school or classroom (a switch, communication device, software program, etc.) with them that they may not know how to use or it’s been a long time since it been used.  We will work to “refresh” these items in your teachers’ toolkits and find ways to incorporate them to support current students.
