VCTM (Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics) 2019 ANNUAL CONFERENCE: FOR THE LOVE OF STUDENTS, WE TEACH MATHEMATICS

This is a completed event.

Description:

This year's conference will focus on the following four strants:

Teaching with the New Standards

This strand will focus on implementing the new standards. Sessions will illuminate the differences from the old to the new Mathematics Standards of Learning and provide new exemplar ideas for teaching, and assessing the new standards. Sessions may include activities that will help teachers implement the recently adopted computer science standards. The standards of focus should come from the following Computer Science Standard’s strands: Algorithms and Programming and Data and Analysis

Implementing Equitable Instruction

Sessions in this strand can include approaches for teaching that empower diverse learners, including culturally responsive teaching, teaching for social justice, teacher noticing, and differentiation.

Experience the Wonder, Joy, and Beauty of Math

Sessions in this strand should cultivate our sense of wonder, joy, and beauty of mathematics, particularly ideas that make connections with the fine arts, music, culture, or other creative mathematics ideas. We want to feel your love of mathematics.

Supporting the Success of Every Student

Sessions in this strand can include classroom-tested ideas and strategies, particularly ideas that support the eight research-informed instructional practices from NCTM's Principles to Actions.
