Webinar: An Overview of COVID Recovery, Compensatory Education, and Extended School Year Services (PEATC)

This is a completed event.

Description:

During the COVID-19 pandemic many students have faced gaps in educational services or were unable to benefit from learning due to changes in instruction. As students return to in-person learning, parents and schools are faced with the task of figuring out how to best get these students “back on track.”

This presentation will talk about the differences between COVID recovery, compensatory education, and extended school year services. The presenter will also discuss some advocacy strategies that can be used when requesting these services for your child.

The presenter, Kerry Chilton, has been practicing law as a staff attorney with the disAbility Law Center of Virginia (dLCV) since December 2016. Prior to her position as a staff attorney Kerry also served as a legal intern and law fellow for dLCV. Kerry graduated from the University of Richmond and the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law. Kerry regularly represents students in special education matters both in the community and in juvenile justice facilities. In addition to individual advocacy Kerry leads trainings on special education rights and assists with dLCV’s systemic advocacy initiatives.
