NAMI Virginia Online Programming (National Alliance of Mental Illness)

Description:

Due to COVID-19, program capacity has become limited due to the need for social distancing. In order to continue ongoing support and education, NAMI Virginia is excited to offer online programs that are available statewide.

Online Support Groups

  • NAMI Family Support Group For Parents of Children 17 and Under- NEW: This is a free, peer led support for parents of children living with mental health challenges. Our NAMI Family Support Groups offer a confidential space to share and gain sincere uncritical acceptance from others with similar experiences.

For Parents of Children and Youth

  • Education Courses:
    • Children's Challenging Behaviors: Children’s Challenging Behaviors provides education and support for parents of children living with mental health challenges.
    • NAMI Basics on Demand: A  free, six-session online education program for parents, caregivers and other family who provide care for youth aged 22 or younger who are experiencing mental health symptoms.
  • Social Media:
    • Virginia Family Network Facebook PageAn open group for parents, caregivers, families, providers and anyone interested in staying connected to mission of the Virginia Family Network (VFN).
    • Advance Parent Leadership Alumni Facebook Group: This a closed group on Facebook where alumni of the VFN Advanced Parent Leadership Training connect and share resources and information to further develop their leadership and advocacy skills.

For Youth and Young Adults

  • Guided Self Care: Facilitators will guide the group through a new self-care practice as the participants partake in the practice.
  • Stay In And Stay Busy: This focuses on creative ways to make a difference during social distancing while sharpening your own personal leadership approach in a safe environment with your peers.
  • Film and Friends: This a weekly film screening  that allows all participants to view that same movie in real time through a shared link created by the Netflix Party on Google Chrome.
