This is a completed event.

Description:

The Literacy Team at the Region 4 Training and Technical Assistance Center at George Mason University has received a grant from the Virginia Department of Education to fund virtual training in Multi-Sensory Structured Literacy Instruction for approximately 24 Region 4 teachers. The Institute of Multi-Sensory Education (IMSE) will provide 30 hours of training in the Orton-Gillingham approach.

The training will be virtual.

Note: This opportunity and application process is separate from the VDOE’s Summer Muliti-Sensory Structured Language Institute or MSLI scheduled for July 20-23.

Please share this information and the application link with your teachers. The application will be open until April 22, 2020, 5:00 PM.

This course is designed to be hands-on, interactive and personalized. It provides an in-depth understanding of the IMSE’s enhanced Orton-Gillingham method as well as the tools teachers need to apply the skills and knowledge in their classrooms. Teachers will gain an understanding of the structure and foundations of the English language. They will learn to assess for and provide instruction in phonological skills, phonics, word recognition, spelling, writing, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. There are several out of class assignments.

When: Jun 22-26 from 8:00 to 3:30 daily

  • Participants will sign in daily and are expected to attend all sessions and complete assignments.

Attached is a document from IMSE that includes a course description, assignments and technology requirements All applicants should read this carefully. Video submissions are required during the week of training.
