Description:

 Opening Doors-Unlocking Potential 2020

Instruction for Successful Transition, Preparing All Learners for the Future

June 24-25, 2020, Richmond-Midlothian, Virginia (Specific location is being confirmed)

Save these dates for the 14th annual ODUP Institute, Virginia’s Go-To event designed to increase the knowledge and skills of teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and other educators who work directly with students who are d/hh! ODUP 2020 will continue its strong focus on effective strategies to positively impact literacy, academic outcomes and transition skills for students who are d/hh.

Featured presenter, Dr. Jennifer Catalano, will provide an overview and training to all ODUP participants on Explicit Contextualized Vocabulary Instruction-DHH (ECV-DHH) - formally called "Vocabulary for Success." ECV-DHH is an approach to content area vocabulary instruction for use with young students who are d/hh and very effective with students needing remediation. The explicit and contextualized instructional strategies expose students to new words and give students practice using those words expressively. This strategy is based on the concept that students who are d/hh should have explicit, contextualized, and repeated opportunities to learn new words as well as strategies to help them become life-long vocabulary learners. For some background on Vocabulary Instruction, consider watching the Center for Literacy and Deafness produced webinar: Vocabulary Intervention for D/HH Students. (CLAD-VOCABULARY)

Additional ODUP sessions including an informative session on transition skills, along with informative exhibits, door prizes and the opportunity to network with colleagues from across Virginia and beyond, make ODUP 2020 the place to be the end of June!
