Medicaid in Schools Training (Virginia Department of Education, VDOE & Department of Medical Assistance Services, DMAS)

Description:

The VDOE, in collaboration with the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) is offering a virtual training opportunity on May 2-4, 2022 to address efforts underway to expand school divisions’ federal Medicaid reimbursement for covered school-based services provided to children outside of special education.

The trainings will be Monday, May 2, 2022 through Wednesday, May 4, 2022. The trainings will address what school divisions need to be doing now in anticipation of federal approval for this expansion of funding. VDOE and DMAS expect to implement the methodology that will allow LEA’s additional funding on July 1, 2022, pending final approval from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services.

The training targets school-based occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language therapists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, school counselors, adaptive behavior therapy specialists, special education aides, and clinic aides (both school division and contracted personnel). Special education directors and supervisors, student services directors and coordinators, school nurse coordinators, school financial officers, and Medicaid coordinators will also receive information on expanding funding opportunities through Medicaid billing outside of special education (Free Care).

Registration is not required for the training. Click on the zoom link (Medicaid in Schools Training Agenda) at the time of the session. Space is limited to 500 participants per session. Attendance will be on a first come, first serve basis.
