The Tuition Free Inclusive Practices Course (Participant Interest Form Due by May 14, 2021) Virginia Department of Education, VDOE
The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), in partnership with the Virginia Inclusive Practices Center at Radford University, is providing an opportunity for participation in a technical assistance initiative to address inclusive practices through two graduate-level online courses designed for teachers and building-level administrators.The purpose of these three-credit special topics courses is to increase the capacity of school divisions to support an inclusive philosophy, use the Virginia Inclusive Action Planning Guide, and implement effective inclusive practices.
The course offerings are:
- EDSP 660 - Building Capacity for Inclusive Education in Public Schools; and
- EDSP 660 - Inclusive Education Through Co-Teaching and Specially Designed Instruction
Each course will be taught as a compressed, five-week online course for one summer session, Summer II (June 28, 2021-July 31, 2021). The cost of applying to Radford University as a non-degree seeking student, tuition for the course, and textbooks will be at no cost to participants.
Applicants should express their interest through the Participant Interest form by May 14, 2021. Selected participants will be informed beginning May 17, 2021. Applications to the university are due by May 28, 2021. The Summer II session begins June 28, 2021, and ends July 31, 2021. Space is limited to 80 participants, 40 per course. School divisions receive priority enrollment if they do not meet State Performance Plan Indicator 5 goals for the percentage of time spent in general education settings. After May 14, 2021, any slots remaining will be awarded with geographic and division distribution consideration. Those eligible to apply must be licensed building-level administrators or licensed teachers employed in a Virginia elementary, middle, or high school.
