This is a completed event.

Description:

Please register for this Virginia Literacy Act Webinar - The Virginia Literacy Act (VLA), passed by the Virginia Legislature in 2022, seeks to improve K-3 literacy outcomes for all students in the Commonwealth. As part of this legislation, all reading specialists are required to receive training in evidence-based literacy instruction and science-based reading research.

The Department of Education and Virginia Literacy Partnerships will host a webinar on March 29, 2023 from 12:00 – 1:00 pm to review information about the training and the role of reading specialists. The webinar will be recorded and posted on the Department of Education website.

Virginia Literacy Partnerships (https://literacy.virginia.edu/) is leading the design, development, and facilitation of this free statewide knowledge-based professional development training series for Virginia educators. This training series will also prepare reading specialists to support the implementation of VLA, including supporting implementation of aligned instructional resources (e.g., curriculum) and the new Virginia Literacy Screener.
