Virtual Training: Capacity Building for IEP Teams (PEATC and Virginia Department of Education, VDOE)

This is a completed event.

Description:

This training will be presented virtually and will include webinar, discussion boards, resourced, and supplementary material.

PEATC, in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), is pleased to present Capacity Building for IEP Teams Workshop.

The IEP process can be daunting for everyone including educators. School personnel report that they often find IEP meetings difficult and stressful. Parents report the same feelings. IEP meetings can be places of high anxiety and sometimes conflict even erupts. Everyone comes to the IEP table with thoughts of their personal responsibilities, backgrounds, perspectives, and individual concerns, and must navigate all of those while following procedures and regulations. This workshop is designed to help IEP teams build the capacity around participating in IEP meetings and collaboration. Discussion will include a view from ‘both’ sides of the table, as well as information on the seven elements of highly effective IEP teams. All along the way, we will provide practical strategies aimed at helping future IEP meetings be more positive, productive and collaborative for everyone involved.

The training will take approzimately 3 hours, and can be accessed anytime during the 2 week time frame (June 7-21, July 12-26, or Aug. 9-23).

A certificate of completion will be provided for all who complete the workshop.
