TechKnowledgy Webinar: Adapting Play - Making Toys Accessible

This is a completed event.

Description:

Registration for this webinar is closed.  We are considering repeating this webinar in February.

Toys cost money and accessible toys can cost a LOT of money. However, with some simple, cheap materials and tools that can be acquired at a local craft store or online, along with a little know-how, YOU can adapt simple plush toys up to remote controlled cars to make them switch accessible. Join us for this online session to learn how simple it can be to adapt toys yourself. Participants will receive a kit of materials in the mail to follow along with the facilitator and will end the session with their own adapted switch and battery interrupter to use with toys in their schools.

For this session, Matthew Newton will show you how to make a battery interrupter and simple switch with common materials you can find at a craft or hardware store. This switch and interrupter could then be used to make an off-the-shelf battery-operated toy accessible. You will receive a package in the mail with all of the materials you will need for this activity. Please email Matthew at matthewn@vt.edu with your name and mailing address by November 6, 2019. If you register after November 6th, you will still receive the battery interrupter materials in the mail so you can create the battery interrupter after the webinar.
