Online Short Courses from Central Institute for the Deaf (CID)- Course #1 Developing IEP Goals for Student with Hearing Loss: Speech, Language and Auditory Development

Outreach Services, VSDB has purchased access to four online short courses (30 - 60 minutes each), and is making them available to professionals in Virginia who want to learn more about working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The courses were developed at the Central Institute for the Deaf (CID). Those who register before the given deadline will be sent a code that will allow access for one month (dates are specified) to take that course at their convenience, 24/7. At the end of that course, each participant must complete an assessment, a course evaluation, and a questionnaire, and will then receive ASHA or LSLS CEUs and a certificate of completion. People may take as many or few courses as they choose.

Course #1 Now Open for Registration! Developing IEP Goals for Students with Hearing Loss: Speech, Language and Auditory Development takes you through the process of writing IEP goals using SMART criteria for children with hearing loss. The course explores sample goals and benchmarks for children of various ages from 3 – 12 years. It ends with a case study challenging you to apply what you have learned. (~60 minutes, course only) This course is offered in collaboration with the Virginia Department of Education.

Target Audience: Educators (including teachers, related service providers, instructional assistants, and special education directors) who work with children who are deaf or hard of hearing, ages 3 – 12, with a goal of developing listening and spoken language skills.
