Applications are due by April 30, 2024 - The Center on Transition Innovations at VCU and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) are thrilled to announce the launch of the first cohort of the Statewide Transition Leaders Academy (STLA). The Statewide Transition Leaders Academy (STLA) is a unique program that aims to enhance special education leadership and implementation in secondary transition. It offers comprehensive professional development and technical assistance to transition professionals.

STLA is designed to help school districts and state-run programs plan for future leadership roles and prepare upcoming leaders for administrative roles in special education. Over the course of a year, the program includes workshops, seminars, direct observations, assignments, and practical experiences. Participants will develop the knowledge, skills, and real-world experience needed to become effective special education administrators.

Who's eligible? Candidates for the Academy can be administrators in entry-level positions, teachers, student services staff, and related services staff who have shown leadership qualities. All applicants must either have a master’s degree or be close to finishing one. They must also have the endorsement of their special education directors and division superintendents or their representatives.
