Matter Matters! (Virginia Air & Space Center, Hampton, VA)
What? Students will meet with educators from the VA Air & Space Center for some fun, interactive activities that help them make sense of science, followed by lunch, an IMAX theater presentation, and a guided tour of the Air & Space Center.
Who is invited? Virginia students ages 8 – 18 who are deaf or hard of hearing. Each student may bring one sibling age 8-18 to participate in the initial activity. Parent(s) are asked to then join us for a complimentary lunch, an IMAX theater presentation (limit 2 per family), and a guided tour of the Center.
The deadline for registration is Feb. 23, 2018. This activity is limited to the first 30 individuals (students plus family members) If accommodations other than interpreters are needed, please register as soon as possible to help ensure access.
Personnel from Virginia Hands & Voices and from the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind in Staunton, as well as Tidewater teachers of students who are deaf and hard of hearing are working with staff members of the VA Air & Space Center to make this activity accessible to students, and will be facilitating activities on March 10th.
10:00 - 10:15 Parents sign students in at the VA Air & Space Center
10:15 – 10:30 Welcome to Parents and Students (Outreach Services, VSDB and staff members of the VA Air & Space Center)
10:30 – 11:50 Parents are free to explore downtown Hampton; student and like-aged sibling participate in science activities
11:50 – 1:00 Parents return; families eat (complimentary) lunch together
Introduction to VA Hands & Voices!
1:00 – 1:45 Students and 1 parent per family view interpreted IMAX presentation
1:45 – 3:00 Families are guided through a complimentary, interactive tour through the VA Air & Space Center
3:00 End of Outreach activity. The VA Air & Space Center welcomes families to stay and enjoy the center on their own.
