Fathers bring an important perspective to their child’s special education team, but they may not always feel included or know how to become more involved. In this engaging session, Dion Chavis, father of a child with autism and founder of The Glad Dad, shares a father’s perspective on navigating special education and participating in the IEP process.

Families and professionals will explore some of the barriers that can make it harder for fathers to participate and why their knowledge of their child is an important part of special education decision-making. Dion will share practical strategies for helping schools more intentionally engage fathers and for helping fathers become more confident and active participants in their child’s education.

Every parent brings a unique perspective to the IEP table. How can we make sure fathers are part of the conversation?
