English Learner Tool Kit (U.S. Department of Education) (September 2015)

Description:

The U.S. Departments of Education (ED) and Justice (DOJ) are pleased to announce the completion of the English Learner (EL) Tool Kit to support states, districts and schools in meeting their legal obligations to EL students and ensuring access to a quality education.

Topics included in the tool kit include:  tools and resources for identifying ELs, providing ELs with high-quality EL programs, evaluating the effectiveness of EL programs, avoiding unnecessary segregation, providing qualified staff, ensuring access to school programs and activities (including disability-related services), exiting ELs from EL programs at the appropriate time, monitoring their progress, and supporting limited English proficient (LEP) parents.
